Fun Fact: The printing method for the knock off merch is sublimation. The ink turns into a gas and fuses with the fabric to make the print and can only fuse to synthetic fabrics like polyester. That's why the material sucks so bad! It's basically plastic

what’s so wild to me, as a redbubble creator, is how they pick and choose who gets copyright claimed for this kind of stuff. i obviously post my own art on there, but when i uploaded a woodstock poster i designed myself it got removed from redbubble by the record label who owns JANIS JOPLIN lmaoo. like the poster was my design, the fonts and color schemes were mine, the typography layout was mine, i even stylistically changed the picture of janis but i guess just “using someone’s likeness” is enough get your art removed. that’s why im pissed to no end when i get on the site and see so much ripped off art still on the site and selling. just baffling to me.

You did actually stop me from buying from Redbubble. I am new to you, Danny and Drew and have never bought merch from any PLclipr. I genuinely didn't know what Redbubble was but it showed up when I was googling yall. I saw stickers or bumper stickers and was like "oh cool is any of this legit" and then saw this video. I really want to put nonsense stickers on stuff in town like a low grade hooligan or just on my laptop, etc, but I figure I'll find some actual original junk on etsy. I would love to get merch from you guys just because it's not super pretentious or stretching, it looks like the drops are actual references and inside jokes that also look pretty nice. Dude I live in Texas I need that Yee Yee merch, but I'm gonna wait till it's restocked for sure.

I once saw a guy (he was young like maybe 19-20) who wore pink speedos to the beach with his face on the crotch. He noticed everyone staring and I heard him say to his friends “they’ve never seen anyone famous before”. GOD YES IM SO MAD ABOUT REDBUBBLE. words cannot explain the anger and dissapointment i felt seeing all my favorite artists works get stolen without second though and being made advantage of. my reach is basically 0, but im scared it could happen to me too one day. it honestly sucks HARD for us small artists.

As an artist, Redbubble made it possible for me to sell my art when I didn't have the means to sell my own prints and stuff, but the way they run the site is complete garbage lmao. I had some Saw fan art on there which was taken down (fair, even though it was an original drawing), but people can just sell like... screenshots from TV shows & youtube videos?? Like I'm pretty sure one of the highest selling things on there is a screenshot from The Office. I was really bitter than my art was taken down yet stuff like that flies under the radar.
That, compared with the insane amounts of art theft??? Yeah they do not care about artists at all. It sucks bc I'm still financially dependant on the very little money I make on there, but I'm glad there are big creators talking about how gross it is as a concept

I have a bunch of kurtis merch and even tho he was like “I understand it can be expensive sometimes” but it’s literally just normal prices for a hoodie and sweatshirts. And also Kurtis’s customer service is amazing, they got my order wrong and immediately sent me what I was supposed to get so I ended up getting an extra hoodie for free.

as an artist ive had a redbubble shop for a while because it was easier than setting up an etsy and shipping things out myself but damn the profit margins are horrendous considering how much they go on about how they looooove artists. If I sell a sticker I make a few cents. A bag, maybe a dollar. It would be somewhat ok if I was selling something more than every couple months haha. Im considering taking my store down and setting up a real one now that Im older and more capable

As a small artist I used red bubble for like stickers and stuff. Mostly because they do all the production for you, so it’s super easy for an artist like me only to have prints and stickers on my shop. But it’s insane how much stolen stuff is on there, as well as shorty products. I’ve gotten stickers there and their pretty good quality but everything else sucks ass.

Especially when I was pretty close of planning on purchasing a few of their stuff for a present for myself and my brother, as well. Controversial opinion but some of my favorite shirts are actually from redbubble. I personally find a lot of their stuff pretty well made and as an artist myself its cool to be able to put my stuff up + supporting other artists ofc. Although I really do agree there's a serious copyright issue there, I dont think their products are actually that poorly made or from my experience anyway.
If you buy from redbubble, just make sure to check that the artist is actually the poster, thats what I've been doing anyway!
Often artists with a redbubble will put down the link in their social medias, so just double check before you give your money to a scammer.
(also about the mask they do actually say on their website that it's not a medical one and it isnt approved lol)

I will say that for a lot of artists, redbubble is the easiest way for them to sell their art (I have a lot of artist friends who don't have the resources to make their own stickers or shirts or stuff, so the easiest way to sell is from redbubble because you just have to upload a design), but that's the only credit i'll give them. Redbubble still pays artists shit money though and has the copied art problem u discussed so if u are able to find said artists stuff elsewhere, I'd buy from that site instead.

A few years ago my friend had a Redbubble store where she sold little drawings of the Blue Jays players and she got taken down because the hats had little tiny versions of the Blue Jays logo on them. So she had to completely rework the design before they would let her sell her stuff again. Moral of the story is that they actually care about trademark/copyright infringement, but only about the clout of the copyright holder and apparently individuals like you guys and artists are not "big" enough to scare them.

The fact that redbubble removed my account because apparently I was stealing art from my own instagram account with the exact same name doesn’t sit right with me considering the fact that they let all of this happen

actually correction: they care about copyright infringement from actual companies, but they give zero shit about small creators. they have a whole list of approved media you can sell for, and even then they can just decide to take it down anyways. i once made a bi wilt from foster's home for imaginary friends design for a shirt(which is on their approved list) and it followed all of their guidelines, but they took it down anyways

My experience with knock-off merch first began when I saw Lorde in concert in 2014 and it was my first concert that I went to without my parents and there were some guys selling merch outside the venue to the people in line and I bought a shirt for $20 since I was dumb and thought it was official merch lmao

my experience with knockoff merch: i made a Kurtis Conner collage shirt for my sister once. stole some photos from your instagram (sorry), cropped you out of them and made a collage of your face, then ordered a shirt with that graphic on it and gave it to her. so i guess i was the one knocking you off but it was just once so pls forgive me mr mayor

I used to buy stuff off redbubble, I only got three t-shirts, a Judge Dredd t, an Evil Ernie one and Lobo one, now I bought all these at once, and didn't really look at the site properly, so I didn't know until I got the shirts that they were knock offs, I will say the quality of the shirts were actually pretty good, and the prints are still good, but I was saddened to know that they're knock offs, especially the Evil Ernie one, because the artist behind the Evil Ernie shirt died way back in the 90's and generally any money that goes toward anything with his art work on it goes towards his families estate, so knowing they made no money off it pisses me off.

I've bought a couple of things from redbubble in the past before for friends, especially as it was so easy to find anime merch. I had no idea they were so disrespectful to artists! Will not be buying from them anymore and shop etsy instead!

Dang. I've been on RedBubble for years as an artist and have had two designs taken down (by LucasFilms and Fox) for copyright, even though they were original designs based on their IP. But, yeah, stolen designs are a very different thing. That's a huge problem everywhere. I like the quality of their shirts, though. I can't speak to anything else they sell.
But, you know, thanks for making sure even less people support small artists wherever they can be found. Jackass.

I love Redbubble! Except for when someone stole my art I made when I was 14 and put it on a shirt for someone to wear. That was a fun surprise.
But other than that don't fuck Redbubble! At least they have interesting merch! If creators don't want to lose revenue to Redbubble then create some more interesting merch! (Or let the buyers create their own design based off of approved templates!) Not stinging you for wanting people to respect your copyright but, so far they're pretty good for that they are.
They just don't fucking moderate their artwork that gets uploaded to the website so there's no way of knowing if it's actually theirs.
